Tinubu Assures Osun Voters Of Security Ahead Of Saturday Poll

President Bola Tinubu has assured voters in Osun State of adequate security ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, urging residents to come out and cast their votes without fear or intimidation.

Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the APC governorship campaign finale in Osogbo, called on political parties and their supporters to shun violence and allow voters to freely choose their preferred candidate.

Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the recent killing and destruction of property in Esa-Oke, directing security agencies to increase their presence in the area and investigate those responsible.

Adeleke also urged political actors and supporters to avoid provocative statements and settle their differences through the ballot.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has also barred state-established security outfits, quasi-security groups and private security organisations from election security duties.

The Police reiterated the ban on armed escorts and security aides accompanying political figures and VIPs to polling units or collation centres, warning that ballot snatching, voter intimidation, political thuggery and other electoral offences would attract arrest and prosecution.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ishyaku Mohammed has been deployed to coordinate police operations for the election, with senior officers positioned across the state’s three senatorial districts.
