The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ishyaku Mohammed to Osun State to oversee security operations for Saturday’s governorship election.
Force Public Relations Officer Anietie Iniedu said the deployment is part of measures by the Nigeria Police Force to provide adequate security and support a peaceful and credible electoral process across the state.
DIG Mohammed will coordinate police operations for the election and collaborate with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES.
He will be assisted by Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police deployed across Osun State’s three senatorial districts.
The officers are expected to supervise security operations, strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure swift response to any security threats before and during the election.
The Police Force also restated its restriction on armed escorts, security aides and other unauthorised persons accompanying politicians or VIPs to polling units and collation centres on election day.
