Scottish police are investigating reports that several foreign athletes failed to return home after competing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Police Scotland confirmed that it had received reports of athletes who were unaccounted for and said investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the UK Home Office to establish the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
According to Uganda’s NBS Sport, four members of the country’s six-person boxing team went missing before their scheduled departure on Tuesday. One of the missing athletes reportedly told the broadcaster that he intended to seek asylum.
Pakistan Today also reported that one member of Pakistan’s boxing team failed to board the team’s return flight home.
Incidents involving missing athletes have occurred at previous Commonwealth Games. Following the 2018 Gold Coast Games in Australia, authorities continued searching for dozens of athletes and officials weeks after the event, while many others applied for asylum.
