Agbedi Says PDP Strategically Packaging Jonathan for 2027

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is deliberately taking its time to present former President Goodluck Jonathan as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS, Agbedi said it is the responsibility of the party, not Jonathan, to unveil its presidential candidate, describing the former president as the PDP’s “best” and “most precious” candidate.

He maintained that Jonathan’s silence should not be interpreted as a lack of interest, insisting that the party has a strategy for presenting him to Nigerians at the appropriate time.

Agbedi also defended the PDP’s ongoing legal dispute with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying the party is only seeking to enforce existing court judgments regarding its leadership and remains confident of success on appeal.

The lawmaker argued that Jonathan remains widely respected because of his experience as a former president and his international engagements, adding that Nigeria needs tested leadership to address its current challenges.

He also criticised the current administration, saying the country requires a leader capable of restoring public confidence, strengthening the rule of law and repositioning Nigeria on the global stage.

Agbedi expressed confidence that if eventually presented by the PDP as its presidential candidate, Jonathan would receive widespread support from Nigerians.
