The Federal Road Safety Corps has launched Operation Shark Smile, a special enforcement exercise by its Zone 6 Headquarters in Port Harcourt aimed at reducing road crashes caused by persistent traffic violations.

The operation, which runs from July 20 to July 22, 2026, will be carried out simultaneously across Zone 6 states, including Akwa Ibom, with FRSC personnel working alongside other security agencies to enforce traffic regulations.

According to the FRSC, the exercise will target offences such as overloading, number plate violations, dangerous driving, worn out tyres, speeding, use of mobile phones while driving, defective vehicles, failure to install speed limiters, windscreen violations and seat belt offences.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Felicia M. Kalu, said the operation will involve increased deployment of personnel, patrol vehicles, ambulances and tow trucks to improve emergency response and enhance road safety.

The FRSC says offenders will be prosecuted or required to pay the prescribed fines in line with existing traffic regulations.
