The Kano State Police Command says it has intercepted 123 vehicles with covered, defaced or no registration plates under its ongoing Operation Clean Plates, with all offending drivers now facing prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police said the operation is aimed at preventing criminals from using unregistered vehicles to evade law enforcement and commit crimes.
The command also announced the arrest of a suspect who allegedly attempted to flee after his unregistered vehicle was stopped. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a pistol, suspected cannabis, a knife, lithium batteries and a vehicle believed to be stolen.
The police said Operation Clean Plates will continue across all 44 local government areas of Kano State and urged motorists to properly register their vehicles while supporting security agencies with credible information.
