Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has issued a final warning to illegal occupants on the median of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, with a major demolition exercise scheduled to commence next week.
The governor announced that all illegal structures from Orile-Iganmu to Okokomaiko will be removed as part of efforts to restore order and improve sanitation along the corridor.
Speaking during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Surulere, Sanwo-Olu stressed that the highway median is not designated for markets, businesses, or residential structures.
He warned that thousands of enforcement personnel would be deployed for the exercise and stated that there would be no exemptions for offenders.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving waste management across the state.
He announced the procurement of 150 additional compactors to enhance waste evacuation, with the first batch expected to arrive within the next three months.
Sanwo-Olu added that smaller compactor trucks are also being acquired to improve refuse collection in inner streets and estates.
He further disclosed plans to establish a recycling facility capable of processing 4,250 metric tonnes of waste daily, with the facility expected to become operational next year.
The governor urged residents to support the state’s waste management initiatives by paying their waste disposal bills promptly and maintaining a cleaner environment.
