The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, has rescued 47 abductees, mostly women and children, from an ISWAP enclave in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Acting Military Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Captain Mohammed Musa, disclosed this in a statement, describing the rescue as a major humanitarian success recorded during ongoing military operations in the North-East.
According to the statement, the victims were rescued on June 20, 2026, following sustained offensive operations by troops against ISWAP strongholds in the Lake Chad region.
The military said the coordinated ground and air assaults forced the terrorists to abandon their positions, creating an opportunity for the captives to escape from prolonged captivity.
Captain Musa noted that the rescued persons are currently receiving medical attention at a secure location, while humanitarian support is being provided in collaboration with relevant agencies to facilitate their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
He stated that the operation reflects the commitment of Operation Hadin Kai to not only degrade terrorist networks but also secure the release of civilians held by insurgents.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its determination to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups, dismantle remaining ISWAP cells and restore peace and stability across the North-East region.
The military added that efforts would continue until all terrorist enclaves are neutralised and affected communities are fully secured.
