Spanish giants Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth €55 million.
The La Liga club announced on Monday that an agreement had been reached with Chelsea for the transfer of the Spain international, who has signed a six-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2032.
In a statement, Real Madrid said: “Real Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will join our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032.”
The 27-year-old defender joined Chelsea from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2022 after progressing through Barcelona’s youth academy and later establishing himself at Getafe.
Cucurella is currently part of Spain’s squad at the FIFA World Cup and becomes the latest addition to Real Madrid’s rebuilding project under newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho.
The move comes as Madrid continue to strengthen their squad following a disappointing campaign in which they failed to secure a major trophy. Club president Florentino Perez, who was recently re-elected, has overseen an active transfer window aimed at reinforcing key areas of the team.
Cucurella leaves Chelsea after four seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he helped the club win the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League in 2025. He had two years remaining on his contract with the London club.
The defender was a regular figure in Chelsea’s squad and made his departure after a challenging season that saw the Blues finish 10th in the Premier League.
Real Madrid are also reportedly pursuing further reinforcements as preparations continue for the new season.
