CAF Awards AFCON 2025 Final Victory to Morocco After Senegal Forfeiture

Date:

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board has ruled that Senegal national football team forfeited the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, awarding a 3–0 victory to Morocco national football team.

In an official statement, CAF said the decision was taken in line with Article 84 of the tournament regulations, which outlines disciplinary procedures and sanctions, including match forfeiture.

According to the ruling, Senegal was deemed to have forfeited the final match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. As a result, the match has been officially recorded as a 3–0 win for the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).

The decision effectively hands the final to Morocco, although CAF did not immediately provide detailed information about the circumstances that led to the forfeiture.

CAF’s Appeal Board serves as the highest decision-making body for disputes within African football competitions, and its rulings are binding under the organisation’s regulatory framework.

The development marks a rare situation in continental football, as forfeitures in major finals such as the Africa Cup of Nations are uncommon and often carry significant consequences for the teams involved.

Further clarification from the Confederation of African Football is expected as reactions continue to emerge from stakeholders across the African football community. ⚽
