Man City Draw Real Madrid As Premier League Clubs Discover Champions League Last-16 Opponents

Date:

Manchester City will face holders Real Madrid in the standout tie of the UEFA Champions League round of 16, following Friday’s draw.

The clash marks the fifth consecutive season both sides have met in the knockout stages, renewing one of Europe’s most compelling modern rivalries.

Premier League Clubs Learn Fate

Chelsea have been drawn against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain, setting up another heavyweight encounter.

Newcastle United will take on Spanish champions Barcelona, while Premier League leaders Arsenal face German side Bayer Leverkusen.

Six-time European champions Liverpool have been paired with Turkish giants Galatasaray, and Tottenham Hotspur will battle Atletico Madrid.

Knockout Schedule

The first legs of the round of 16 will be played on March 10 and 11, with the return fixtures scheduled for March 17 and 18.

Potential Quarter-Final Paths

Should Manchester City advance past Real Madrid, they will meet either Bayern Munich or Atalanta in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea and Liverpool could face each other in the last eight if both overcome PSG and Galatasaray respectively.

If Arsenal progress, they will meet either Bodo/Glimt or Sporting CP. A semi-final berth could potentially pit them against Newcastle, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid or Tottenham.

Road to Budapest

The quarter-finals are scheduled for April 7-8 and 14-15, with the semi-finals set for April 28-29 and May 5-6.

The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League final will be held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on May 30.
