Zelensky: Russia Fired 40 Missiles and 40 Drones Into Ukraine Overnight

Date:

Russia fired more than 40 missiles and 40 drones into Ukraine overnight, hitting Kharkiv once more and aiming for “important infrastructure” across the nation, according to a statement made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday.

Although no casualties have been confirmed as of yet, Kyiv declared a “massive” attack on the nation’s key infrastructure.

Announcing on X, Zelensky said, “Overnight, Russia fired more than 40 missiles and 40 drones at Ukraine. Some missiles and ‘Shahed’ drones were successfully shot down. Unfortunately, only a part of them,” the Ukrainian president added.

Speaking further, Zelensky explained that there was another massive attack on Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region. He also mentioned that infrastructural facilities were also targeted in Kyiv, the cities of Zaporizhzhya and Odesa in the south, and the western city of Lviv, close to the Polish border.

Some of Moscow’s largest aerial strikes of the two-year conflict have been directed towards Ukraine’s energy facilities in recent months. Zelensky urged Ukraine’s Western allies to provide more air defence systems and not “turn a blind eye” to the war.

Following heavy shelling, hundreds of rescuers have been dispatched to various sites across the nation, according to Ukraine’s Interior Minister, Igor Klymenko.

“For several hours, the Russian military attacked five regions of Ukraine, hitting critical infrastructure,” he said. “Moscow fired more than 10 missiles at Kharkiv, shutting down electricity in some parts of the city.”

On the other hand, Russia reported having destroyed 12 Ukrainian drones overnight, three of which had reached as far east as the Mordovian Republic.

According to the report, others were destroyed across the districts of Kursk, Tambov, Belgorod, Bryansk, and Lipetsk. For months, Ukraine has been using drones to strike Russia.
