WAEC Releases 2024 WASSCE Results: Over 1.3million Candidates Secure Key Credits

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for the May/June session.

Head of WAEC’s Nigeria Office, Amos Dangut announced this on Monday, August 12, 2024.

According to Dangut, 1,685,889 candidates, representing 93.9% of those who registered, had their results released. Out of the 1,805,216 candidates who sat for the exams, 1,332,089 secured credits in five subjects, including either Mathematics or English Language.

Notably, 1,301,949 candidates, or 72.9% of the total, achieved credits in five subjects, including both Mathematics and English Language.

This year’s performance reflects a 7.6% decline compared to the 2023 WASSCE. Also, WAEC withheld the results of 215,267 candidates, accounting for 11.92% of the total, due to suspected examination malpractice.

In a related development, a Nigerian student, Adewole Oluwajuwon, has garnered attention for his outstanding performance in the 2023 WASSCE.

Adewole, a student of Greater Tomorrow International College in Arigidi-Akoko, Ondo State, achieved A1 grades in Civic Education, English Language, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Studies, and Animal Husbandry.

His only non-A1 grade was a B2 in Physics. The school celebrated his achievement with a TikTok video showcasing his remarkable results.
