The United States has significantly revised its visa policy for Nigerian citizens, reducing the validity of most non-immigrant, non-official visas to a single entry with a three-month duration.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the US Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, the change took immediate effect, impacting visa applications submitted from July 8, 2025, onward.
“The US Department of State updated its reciprocal non-immigrant visa policy. Effective today, most non-immigrant & non-official visas for Nigerian citizens will be single-entry with 3-month validity,” the statement said. “Visas issued before July 8, 2025 remain unchanged.”
Previously, many Nigerian travellers were granted two-year multiple-entry visas. Under the new policy, visa holders will now be permitted to enter the US only once within a 90-day period.
The change marks a major shift in travel and diplomatic relations between both countries and is expected to affect tourism, business, and family visits by Nigerians to the United States.
