United States of America Warns Nations Against Business Deal with Iran Following India-Port Contract

Date:

The United States has warned nations from engaging in business ventures with Iran, following India’s recent signing of a decade-long contract to oversee a Port in Tehran.

Following India’s earlier commitment in 2016 to develop the Chabahar Port, close to Iran’s border with Pakistan, India’s Shipping Minister on Monday agreed while reaffirming its dedication to the development.

However, the move may draw concern from the United States, which has imposed over 600 sanctions on entities associated with Iran over the last three years.

State Department Deputy Spokesperson, Vedant Patel, while addressing the issue in a Press Briefing earlier today, reiterated that U.S sanctions against Iran remain in effect, emphasising that Washington would continue to enforce them.
