United States-Nigeria Air Transport Agreement Officially Enters into Force, Enhancing Connectivity and Economic Partnership

Date:

The United States-Nigeria Air Transport Agreement, provisionally applied since 2000 has officially entered into force.

This Landmark Bilateral Agreement modernizes the Civil Aviation relationship between the two nations, aligning with the US Open Skies International Aviation Policy and adhering to stringent aviation safety and security standards.

US Government Spokesperson highlighted the significance of the agreement, as a step forward in liberalizing the International Civil Aviation Sector in Africa, further expanding the strong economic and commercial partnership with the continent.

The Agreement’s provisions include unrestricted capacity and frequency of services, open route rights, a liberal charter regime, and open code-sharing opportunities. These elements aim to enhance connectivity and foster a more competitive and efficient international aviation market.

The US Travel Association notes that routes under the Open Skies Policy typically see average fares reduced by 32%, making air travel more affordable for Americans.

This reduction in costs facilitates greater exploration of new destinations and strengthens connections with loved ones abroad.
