United Nations Security Council Demands Immediate Ceasefire in Sudan’s Besieged El-Fasher

Date:

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has called for an end to all hostilities in the besieged El-Fasher in Sudan’s North Darfur region.

The 15-member Council adopted a resolution drafted by the United Kingdom, which urges the withdrawal of all combatants threatening the safety and security of civilians in El-Fasher, the last major urban center in Darfur not under Rapid Security Force (RSF) control.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Ms. Linda Thomas-Greenfield described the situation as a precarious moment as the British-drafted resolution was passed with 14 votes in favor, while Russia abstained.
