Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has dismissed claims that recent endorsements for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid are driven by fear of a united opposition, insisting instead that the support is rooted in the President’s performance and reform agenda.
Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly on Tuesday, the senator representing Abia North stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains confident in its position and achievements, and is not threatened by political alliances.
“The APC is not afraid of any opposition coalition. We are the ruling party and we love Nigeria. That is why many of us are investing in industries across the country to create jobs beyond government efforts,” said Kalu, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission.
Kalu emphasized that opposition criticism is a normal feature of democratic engagement, but should not be misinterpreted as a sign of vulnerability. “The opposition must fight, that’s their job. But our job is to deliver, and we’re doing it. In the coming years, Nigerians will appreciate what Mr. President is doing,” he noted.
He further highlighted that political support for Tinubu from the South-East preceded endorsements from other regions. According to him, the initiative was spearheaded by Governors and federal lawmakers from the region, reflecting a strategic alignment with the President’s vision.
On economic matters, the former Senate Chief Whip lauded President Tinubu’s reform policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates. He acknowledged the short-term hardships caused by these decisions but insisted they were vital for the country’s long-term economic stability.
