The Nigerian Army has confirmed the detention of Corporal Amina Maidoki pending investigation into allegations of theft and misconduct.
In an official statement signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt-Col Appolonia Anele, the Army emphasized that the detention follows established legal and military procedures. Corporal Maidoki is currently under investigation for conduct deemed inconsistent with the core values of the Nigerian Army.
“As a professional military institution, the Nigerian Army operates under the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20 LFN 2004) and internal regulations that uphold the highest standards of military ethics,” the statement read. “Disciplinary measures are carried out with due process and procedural fairness.”
The Army denied reports of unlawful detention or denial of legal counsel, describing such claims as false and misleading. The institution assured the public that Corporal Maidoki’s rights and welfare are being respected in line with military standards.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, reiterated the Army’s commitment to transparency and lawful conduct throughout the investigative process.
The Nigerian Army further appealed to the public to avoid speculation and assured that updates will be provided at the appropriate time. The family of the detained soldier has been acknowledged, with the Army open to lawful engagement consistent with ongoing procedures.
“No individual is above the law or exempt from military discipline. All allegations of misconduct must be addressed thoroughly to maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army,” the statement concluded.
