Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has clarified that the proposed tax reform bills are not designed to target or marginalize any region but aim to enhance efficiency and boost revenue collection.
Speaking during an interactive session with the House of Representatives, Oyedele explained that the bills, including the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024 and the Tax Administration Bill, focus on modernizing tax laws, streamlining processes, and increasing revenue through consumption-based systems.
Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives, assured that the House would scrutinize the bills to ensure they align with public interest. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu emphasized the need for equity, inclusivity, and sustainable development in the reforms.
These discussions reflect the government’s broader efforts to update Nigeria’s tax system while considering stakeholders’ input for a balanced outcome.
