Super Falcons Coach Randy Waldrum Adjusts Squad For Olympics Amid Injury Setback

Super Falcons Head Coach, Randy Waldrum has adjusted his squad for the 2024 Olympic Games, following an injury to midfielder Halimatu Ayinde.

Ayinde, originally included in Nigeria’s squad for the Paris Olympics, sustained a long-term knee injury during training with her Swedish club Rosengard last week.

In response to Ayinde’s injury, Coach Waldrum replaced her with forward Ifeoma Onumonu, based in the United States. Additionally, midfielder Regina Otu has been called up to join the four alternate players permitted for the summer games.

Currently training in Sevilla, Spain, the Super Falcons are intensifying their preparations for the Olympics. They are scheduled to play a friendly against Canada on 17th July, with plans to depart for Paris the following day.

The former African champions will commence their Olympic campaign against Brazil on 25th July.
