In a major step toward advancing the Bakassi Deep Seaport project in Cross River State, key stakeholders have formally pledged their support to oversee and drive the realization of the initiative.
The commitment was made during a high-level endorsement ceremony attended by the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, and other prominent officials.
Stakeholders present included representatives from Africa Export-Import Bank (Afrexim), Arise Integrated Industrial Platforms (ARISE IIP), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Customs, the Nigerian Shippers Council, the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and local community leaders.

Governor Otu, speaking at the event, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model guiding the project. He described the Bakassi Deep Seaport as a “bold and courageous statement of collective aspiration” that will play a critical role in Cross River’s economic growth.
“The realisation of this project remains a paramount goal of my administration,” the Governor said, stressing the importance of transparency and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure its success.
A highlight of the event was the signing of a Statement of Endorsement by the various stakeholders, officially recognizing them as Bakassi Deep Seaport Brand Ambassadors. This united show of support marks a significant milestone in the project’s progression.
Governor Otu expressed confidence that the collaborative effort of all stakeholders would clear any obstacles to the project’s completion, boosting trade and economic activity in the region. “We are prepared to collaborate with all stakeholders to actualize this project. You can rely on my steadfast support,” the Governor assured.
The Obong of Calabar, represented by Etubom Architect Bassey Eyo Ndem, also lent his tacit endorsement to the project.
Other dignitaries who expressed support for the project included Afrexim Bank Vice President Zitto Alfayo, ARISE IIP Vice President Suren Abeywickrema, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the Director General of ICRC, Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh, and representatives from the Nigerian Navy and Customs.
Top officials from the state, including Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, and Senators representing Cross River South and Central Senatorial Districts, were also in attendance.
The event was widely commended as a critical step forward for the Bakassi Deep Seaport, with stakeholders expressing confidence in the government’s capacity to deliver on its promises and unlock economic opportunities for Cross River State.
