President Bola Tinubu yesterday received Senegal’s President, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and called for a unified approach in West Africa to address the region’s pressing challenges.
According to an official statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu emphasized that West African Nations must collaborate to overcome the multifaceted issues of terrorism, banditry, human trafficking, and poverty.
He stressed that leaders in the region must prioritize their citizens in governance, as the essence of democracy is compromised when the people are not the focal point.
President Faye highlighted the shared values, ideals, and challenges between Nigeria and Senegal, noting the long-standing positive relations since the 1960s.
He called for the reactivation of the Nigeria-Senegal Joint Commission to enhance bilateral relations in diplomacy, trade, and other areas.
The Senegalese President expressed confidence that President Tinubu, in his role as the ECOWAS Chairman, would leverage his wisdom, experience, and relationships with member states to strengthen and advance the community.
