The Nigerian Senate has dismissed allegations that it neglected its duties to honor the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, described the claims as baseless, asserting that the Senate fulfilled its obligations to honor their departed colleague.
“Contrary to insinuations from certain quarters, the Senate accorded Senator Ubah all the honors and rites befitting a sitting member,” Adaramodu stated. He highlighted that, for the first time in National Assembly history, an entire legislative day was dedicated to paying tributes to the late Senator.
Sen. Adaramodu detailed that Senator Ubah’s Senate seat was adorned with the national flag to recognize his contributions to the Senate and his constituency. Following his death, Senate President Godswill Akpabio led a high-powered delegation to Ubah’s Lagos residence to commiserate with his family.
Nearly 100 Senators, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, attended the valedictory session held in Ubah’s honor. Tributes poured in recognizing him as a philanthropist, businessman, and politician.
“Substantial members of the Senate were also present in Nnewi for his burial and had reached out to his family earlier,” Adaramodu emphasized. He dismissed neglect suggestions as unfounded, stating, “It is preposterous to claim the Senate failed to honor the memory of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.”
