The Nigerian Senate has identified and corrected errors in the 2025 Appropriations Bill, which was passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives last Thursday. The discrepancies were discovered during the final cleaning and realignment process by the Joint Committee on Appropriations.
During Tuesday’s plenary session, Senator Adeola Solomon, Chairman of the Senate’s Committee on Appropriations, presented a motion outlining the necessary corrections. The primary adjustments involved increasing the Recurrent Non-Debt Expenditure to ₦13.58 trillion and reducing the Capital Expenditure to ₦23.43 trillion.
The Joint Committee on Appropriations has already implemented these corrections in the bill, which was subsequently approved following its recommittal to the Committee of Supply. Despite the amendments, the overall budget remains unchanged at ₦54.99 trillion. This total includes ₦3.64 trillion designated for statutory transfers and ₦14.31 trillion allocated for debt servicing.
The amended bill is now set to be transmitted to the President for assent. This development underscores the Senate’s commitment to ensuring accuracy and transparency in the budgetary process.
