Security Forces Repel Gunmen Attack in Governor Soludo’s Hometown

A late-night attack by armed assailants on a security checkpoint in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s hometown of Isuofia was successfully repelled by security forces, leaving two attackers dead and a police officer seriously injured.

The incident occurred on Thursday night at a security post in Aguata Local Government Area. According to the Anambra State Police Command, operatives of the Anambra Joint Security Team engaged the gunmen in a fierce gun battle.

  • One police officer sustained life-threatening injuries
  • A security vehicle was set ablaze by the assailants
  • A Toyota Sienna was abandoned by fleeing suspects

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the attack, stating: “This was a test of the collective resolve of Ndi Anambra in collaboration with security forces to eradicate criminal elements in the state.”

Aftermath and Security Response

Police Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that calm has been restored to the area, with additional armed personnel deployed to comb nearby bushes for the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner Orutugu reassured residents that the command remains committed to maintaining peace and security across Anambra State, with investigations ongoing to apprehend all those involved in the attack.

This incident marks the latest in a series of security challenges facing the Southeast region, despite ongoing efforts by state governments and security agencies to combat criminal activities.
