Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has dismissed widespread rumours of a rift with President Bola Tinubu, describing their relationship as that of a father and son.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with the President at his Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, Sanwo-Olu debunked the claims of any disagreement.
“There is none. There are people Catholic than the Pope; they cry more than the bereaved,” the governor said, brushing off speculations.
“Father and son affairs are things that we always ensure that we clear. There is nothing at all. He is my father and my leader, and we are grateful that he has given us the audience to say hello to him today,” Sanwo-Olu added.
The meeting was also attended by key figures of the Lagos political establishment, including the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and his deputy Mojisola Meranda, and Presidential Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.
Speculation about a possible rift intensified following Sanwo-Olu’s absence from recent high-profile events, including the flag-off of the deep seaport access road project in Epe and his perceived snub during the inauguration of a section of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.
The governor’s remarks aim to put to rest growing conjecture about internal tensions within the state’s political leadership.
