Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called for a strategic partnership between the state government and the Nigerian Army to tackle crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and maritime crimes in the region. The governor made this appeal while hosting Major-General Emmanuel Emekah, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Governor Fubara acknowledged the critical role of the 6 Division in safeguarding national assets within its jurisdiction. However, he emphasized that ensuring peace and security in Rivers State is essential for the successful execution of this mission. He expressed the state government’s readiness to collaborate with the military to address the security challenges affecting the region.
In his response, Major-General Emekah stated that his visit was aimed at formally introducing himself to the governor after assuming office and taking over from his predecessor, who has since been reassigned to Abuja. He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting national assets and maintaining peace in Rivers State.
This meeting highlights the importance of collaboration between the state government and security agencies in addressing the persistent challenges of oil theft and maritime crimes, which have significant economic and security implications for the region.
