REPS COMMITS TO ESTABLISHING NEW FEDERAL HEALTH INSTITUTIONS

The House of Representatives has reaffirmed its dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure across Nigeria, pledging to amend the Federal Medical Centers Act 2002 and fast-track 16 bills proposing new federal tertiary health institutions.

During a public hearing organized by the House Committee on Health Institutions, Speaker Abbas, represented by Hon. Martins Oke, assured stakeholders of the House’s commitment to advancing healthcare legislation for national progress.

Chairman of the Committee, Amos Magaji, expressed concern over the migration of healthcare professionals and called for measures to strengthen the sector. Minister of Health Prof. Ali Pate, represented by Dr. Jimoh Salahudeen, emphasized that new establishments should be merit-based to avoid redundancy.

Proposed institutions include Federal Medical Centers in Lagos, Rivers, Abia, Jigawa, and Cross River states, among others.
