Dikko Umaru Radda has directed the Katsina State Ministry of Water Resources to immediately carry out a comprehensive technical assessment of two collapsed earth dams located in Kore village and Majen Wayya in Batagarawa and Charanchi Local Government Areas of the state.

The governor issued the directive on Tuesday at the Government House in Katsina while receiving a delegation of stakeholders, including defectors from the African Democratic Congress and People’s Democratic Party who formally joined the All Progressives Congress.

Radda described the collapse of the dams as a major infrastructural challenge that requires urgent attention to protect irrigation farming and strengthen food security across the state.

According to him, the dams are critical to agricultural production and rural livelihoods in the affected communities.

“We must act quickly to restore these dams because our farmers depend on them for their livelihoods. Agriculture remains central to our development agenda, and water infrastructure is key to achieving that goal,” the governor said.

He stressed that thousands of farmers rely on the facilities for irrigation and water supply, adding that the technical assessment would pave the way for immediate rehabilitation work.

Radda assured residents that his administration would promptly approve rehabilitation efforts once the technical report is submitted.

The governor reiterated that agriculture remains a top priority of his administration and pledged continued investment in infrastructure that supports farming and food production.

On the political development, Radda welcomed the new APC members and assured them of equal opportunities within the party structure.

He directed the state APC chairman, Bashir Gambo Saulawa, to ensure the smooth integration of the defectors into the party.

“Everyone coming into our party will be given equal opportunity to contribute and participate,” he stated.

Radda also urged the new members to support grassroots mobilisation efforts and help promote the achievements of his administration ahead of future elections.

The governor said his administration had made progress in agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, and security.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Hamza Dalhatu said several ADC members and PDP ward chairmen had resolved to join the APC in support of the governor’s administration.

Dalhatu also appealed for the rehabilitation of the two dams, noting that they were originally constructed during his tenure in the House of Representatives.
