President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for the successful rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery, marked by the commencement of petroleum product loading.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, the president acknowledged former President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts in initiating the comprehensive overhaul of the country’s refineries and thanked the African Export-Import Bank for financing the project.
President Tinubu praised NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari for his dedication to overcoming challenges to achieve this milestone.
He urged the corporation to accelerate efforts to reactivate the second Port Harcourt refinery, along with the Warri and Kaduna refineries, to boost domestic production capacity.
“These initiatives, alongside privately-owned refineries, will position Nigeria as a major energy hub while expanding the gas sector under this administration’s unprecedented attention,” the statement read.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to eradicating the perception of Nigeria as a crude oil exporter unable to refine its resources locally.
He emphasized patience, integrity, and accountability as key values in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure and called on all stakeholders to uphold trust in serving the country.
Aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s focus on achieving energy sufficiency, enhancing security, and boosting export capacity for shared economic prosperity.
