The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for suspected cultists linked to the killing of a police officer and a vigilante member during a brazen attack in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the assailants—led by Umegbewhe Kingsley and Opaka, both identified as leaders of the Iceland cult group—stormed the OSPAC (Onelga Security Planning and Advisory Committee) office located beside the Ahoada East Council Secretariat and opened fire on its operatives.
During the assault, OSPAC member Ngozi Ipah and Corporal Francis Friday of the Nigeria Police were shot. Despite rapid response from police patrol teams led by the Divisional Police Officer, the attackers had already fled the scene by the time officers arrived. Both victims were rushed to the Ahoada General Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, who visited the scene of the attack, condemned the killings and ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units to the area. He also directed the Area Commander and DPO to intensify efforts to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.
“The command assures the public that the killers will not go unpunished,” the statement read. “We urge residents to remain calm and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station. The safety of all citizens remains our top priority.”
The command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for the slain operatives and restoring calm to the community.
