PDP Reschedules NEC Meeting to November 28

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has rescheduled its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, initially planned for October 24, 2024, to November 28, 2024.

This decision was made during a consultative meeting held on Tuesday at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge, Tatari Ali House, Asokoro.

A communiqué issued after the meeting, signed by the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, highlighted the need for the party to focus on the upcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 16, 2024.

The postponement aims to ensure that the PDP enters the elections with the unity and strength required to “unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state”.

The meeting emphasized the importance of unity among party members, particularly in light of efforts by detractors to sow discord within the party.

It urged members to avoid divisive statements that could undermine the ongoing efforts to solidify the PDP as Nigeria’s main opposition party, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Key organs of the party, including the PDP Governors Forum, the Board of Trustees, the National Working Committee (NWC), the National Assembly leadership of the PDP Caucus, and the Forum of Former Governors, were present at the meeting.

The rescheduling comes when the PDP grapples with internal challenges, making unity and cohesion crucial for its success in future political contests.
