FCT MINISTER ISSUES ULTIMATUM FOR BEGGARS TO VACATE ABUJA STREETS

Date:

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has issued an ultimatum, setting October 27, 2024, as the deadline for beggars to vacate the streets of Abuja. Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of access roads to new judges’ quarters in Katampe, Wike voiced concerns over the growing number of beggars in the capital city, warning that failure to comply with the directive will result in arrests by enforcement agents.

Barr. Wike highlighted that the increasing presence of beggars poses a significant security risk, with some individuals allegedly acting as informants for criminals, including armed robbers and kidnappers. He underscored the need for swift action to protect Abuja’s residents and maintain public safety.

On the infrastructure front, the minister assured that funding for the new access road project is well secured, with 70 percent of the necessary funds already in place. Barrister Wike further revealed plans to complete six additional road projects, covering approximately 65 kilometers across various area councils by December.

In a related address, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Benjamin Kalu, representing Speaker of the 10th Assembly, Honorable Tajudeen Abbas, stated that the completion of these access roads will significantly improve the quality of life for both residents and visitors in Abuja. He reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting infrastructural development in the FCT.

Barr. Wike reiterated his administration’s dedication to transforming Abuja into a world-class city, capable of competing with other international urban centers.
