Date:

More than 1,000 newly recruited operatives under the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service have been inducted in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, as part of efforts to bolster security across the South East region.

The induction, held in Otuocha, was conducted with the collaboration of key security agencies, including the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The worsening security situation in the South East region has highlighted the urgent need for additional personnel and resources to address rising challenges. In response, the Anambra Command of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service initiated the recruitment and training of these operatives to enhance security operations.

Deputy Commander General, Technical Service, Dr. John Metchie, emphasized that the inclusion of locals in security efforts is crucial for effectively tackling insecurity. He also appealed to the Federal Government to provide necessary legislation to further empower the hunters in their mission to protect the region.

Dr. Metchie reiterated that utilizing local security personnel is a key component of the ongoing fight against insecurity in the South East.
