The wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Patience Eno, has inaugurated a newly revived 12,000-litre water project in Ibiaku village, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, addressing the long-standing issue of water scarcity in the community.
During the inauguration ceremony, Pastor Patience Eno, through her pet project, Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), reaffirmed her commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable individuals across the state.
She expressed her satisfaction with the revitalization of the water project, which aims to alleviate the water shortage that residents of Ibiaku and neighboring villages, including Ikot Idiong and Esa Ekpa, have endured for years.
Represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Mrs. Enobong Mbobo, the First Lady highlighted the importance of access to clean water in fostering community development.
She reiterated GIFA’s commitment to promoting economic growth through essential infrastructure and urged the local stakeholders to ensure the water project’s proper maintenance and sustainability.
The Transition Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, Lady Mercy Bassey, expressed her gratitude to Pastor Patience Eno for her efforts in reviving the water project, noting that the initiative would ease the burden of traveling long distances for clean, potable water. She said the project would improve the overall well-being of the community.
In her remarks, Honourable Anne Abraham, the Special Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, emphasized that the intervention aligns with GIFA’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program, which promotes safe practices and aims to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
Prominent stakeholders from the community also expressed their appreciation to the First Lady for her intervention, acknowledging the significant relief it has brought to the people of Mkpat Enin.
