In a major victory against insurgency in the Northeast, Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralized at least 60 Boko Haram terrorists during a coordinated overnight assault in Bita, Borno State.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement released Friday, described the operation as “decisive and coordinated,” noting that the engagement began around 1:09 am when insurgents launched an attack on troops from the 26 Task Force Brigade.
Responding swiftly, the troops—backed by air support—carried out a simultaneous land and aerial offensive that led to heavy casualties on the side of the terrorists.
“In a decisive and coordinated operation, gallant troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched a simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, Borno State, in the early hours of today. The intense battle resulted in the neutralization of at least 60 terrorists,” the Army said via its official X handle.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) also confirmed its involvement, stating that its Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai dealt a significant blow to fleeing insurgents through targeted precision airstrikes.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, emphasized the strategic importance of the mission:
“This highly coordinated operation, executed under the cover of darkness, marks one of the most decisive blows against the group in recent times. Ground forces have since launched clearance and exploitation missions to consolidate on gains achieved from the airstrikes.”
The operation underscores the military’s continued resolve to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure lasting peace in the Northeast.
Both the Nigerian Army and Air Force reiterated their commitment to protecting the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring that no safe havens exist for terrorist groups.
