In a strategic move to bolster inland water transport safety, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has donated a large consignment of life jackets to the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA).
The donation event, held at LASWA’s Five Cowries Terminal in Lagos, underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to developing safe, efficient, and accessible water transport systems, especially in Lagos — Nigeria’s busiest waterway hub.
This initiative aligns with the ministry’s broader goal of unlocking the economic potential of the blue economy while prioritizing safety for all waterway users.
The event also featured a live demonstration on proper life jacket use and a public awareness campaign on water safety, jointly coordinated by LASWA, NIWA, the Marine Police, and representatives of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
Minister Oyetola described the donation as a symbol of the strong collaboration between federal and state agencies, working together to make Nigeria’s waterways not only safe but a reliable alternative to road transport.
