The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has suspended former governor Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin over allegations of anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
Ogun APC spokesman, Nuberu Olufemi, confirmed that the suspensions followed petitions from the duo’s wards in Sagamu Local Government. The decision was ratified by the State Working Committee at a meeting held on August 19, chaired by State Chairman Yemi Sanusi, with 16 members in attendance.
Sanusi explained that Ward 4 in Sagamu set up a disciplinary committee to investigate Daniel, while Ward 6 established a similar committee to probe Folarin. Both members were formally invited to appear before their respective panels to defend themselves but allegedly failed to submit written defenses, attend the hearings, or request pardons.
“In view of their deliberate and unexplained absences, the Committees deliberated as scheduled, heard from available witnesses, and considered documentary evidence before reaching their decisions,” Sanusi stated.
The party also accused Daniel and Folarin of harassing members, attempting to intimidate witnesses, and pressuring party members to withdraw petitions filed against them.
“The suspension is to protect the integrity of the disciplinary process and eliminate interference by the members under investigation,” the statement read.
Both suspensions have been declared indefinite, pending further investigations and final decisions by the party.
The APC emphasized that the action underscores its commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding the party’s constitution.
