NIN Enrollment Hits 120 Million as NIMC Intensifies Ward Registration Drive

Date:

The number of Nigerians enrolled in the National Identification Number (NIN) database surged to 120 million in June 2025, marking a 20 percent increase from 100 million recorded in December 2023, according to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The Commission disclosed that the database expanded by seven million in the first half of 2025, positioning the country on track to achieve its target of registering 95 percent of the population by the end of the year.

To accelerate progress, NIMC is deploying members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as part of its Ward Enrolment Initiative aimed at reaching underserved communities.

“The Corps members selected are currently undergoing intensive training in preparation for the kick-off of the ward enrollment,” the Commission stated. “Consequently, Nigerians, most especially children below the age of 16 years, are by this initiative encouraged to enrol for the NIN in their respective wards. This initiative aims to take NIN enrolment closer to the people.”

At the end of 2024, the number of enrollees stood at 110 million, representing a 10 million increase during that year. The latest growth in 2025 shows the Commission is set to exceed the previous year’s record.

Lagos State remains at the top of the enrolment chart with over 12.9 million registered individuals. Kano State follows closely with 11.07 million enrolments as of June 2025.

Kaduna State has overtaken Ogun to occupy third place with 7.1 million enrollees, while Ogun dropped to fourth with 5.06 million.

NIMC’s demographic data shows that males account for the majority of registered individuals, with 68.4 million (56.5 percent), while females make up 52.9 million (43.5 percent).

NIMC Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, emphasized the importance of the ward enrollment initiative, stating that it would “allow the government to know the actual number of Nigerians and make it easy to plan effectively for the citizens.”
