The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that over 110 million Nigerians have been successfully registered for their National Identification Numbers (NIN).
This was disclosed by the Director General of NIMC, Mrs. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, during the commemoration of the 6th National Identity Day held in Abuja on Monday. Mrs. Coker-Odusote highlighted the Commission’s efforts to enhance identity infrastructure and management, emphasizing plans to upgrade the nation’s digital public infrastructure to improve citizens’ access to public services.
She also called for international cooperation in integrating innovative solutions aimed at strengthening the country’s service delivery and social investment programs.
In his address, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, commended NIMC for its ongoing reforms to combat identity fraud. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with NIMC and the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to protect Nigerian citizens’ data and address identity-related challenges.
The 6th National Identity Day event was geared towards raising public awareness of the Federal Government’s strategies for managing citizens’ data to enhance governance and service delivery.
