A Nigerian Navy officer, Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, has been arrested for the murder of Aminu Ibrahim, the son of retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim.
The tragic incident occurred two weeks ago in the Maitama district of Abuja, where Ibrahim was robbed and killed.
During a press briefing in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, confirmed that Muhammad fatally shot Aminu and stole his Prado SUV, which has since been recovered.
The suspect, who was assigned as a seaman to the former Naval Chief’s residence, confessed to the crime, stating that he followed Aminu on a security detail before attacking him at an ATM stop and stealing the vehicle.
In addition, 94 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria were paraded by the police in connection with the deaths of two officers on Sunday.
Further details are expected to follow.
