NIGERIAN ARMY DEBUNK CLAIMS LEVELED AGAINST A SENIOR OFFICER

Date:

The Nigerian Army has strongly refuted claims of cyberbullying and sexual harassment leveled against Colonel Ishaku Abdulkareem and other personnel by ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye on social media.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, explained that Ruth Ogunleye has been spreading false accusations against Colonel Abdulkareem and senior officers, despite a panel report that cleared the officer of any wrongdoing. Major General Nwachukwu emphasized that the accusations are baseless and part of an ongoing defamation campaign.

He further clarified that ex-Private Ogunleye was officially discharged on June 14, 2024, following a thorough medical examination that found her unfit to continue serving in the military.

While condemning all acts of sexual harassment, Major General Nwachukwu stressed that the Nigerian Army will not tolerate the defamation of its officers and soldiers, particularly when these allegations are rooted in falsehoods and ulterior motives.
