Team Nigeria delivered a commanding performance on Day 2 of the ongoing Under-18/Under-20 African Athletics Championships in Abeokuta, clinching three gold medals and asserting dominance on the track.
The highlight of the day came in the Girls’ U18 100m final, where Nigeria achieved a historic clean sweep. Miracle Ezechukwu claimed gold with a time of 11.88 seconds, while compatriots Rosemary Nwankwo and Miriam Jegede secured silver and bronze respectively.
In the U20 Girls’ 100m event, Nigeria continued its medal haul, securing both gold and silver in a fiercely contested race. The boys also added to the tally with two bronze medals in their respective events.
Capping off a spectacular outing, Nigeria triumphed in the U20 Mixed 4x400m Relay. In a nail-biting race marked by multiple lead changes, anchor runner Favour Onyah capitalised on a stumble by South Africa’s final runner to power Nigeria to gold in the closing metres, sealing an electrifying end to the day’s action.
