The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, NIGCOMSAT, says its upcoming NigComSat-2A and 2B satellites will support efforts to tackle insecurity by improving surveillance and communication for security agencies.
NIGCOMSAT Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, says the satellites will provide technology that can be used to track criminal activities and strengthen surveillance operations.
She explained that communication remains a major challenge for military personnel operating in remote areas, where troops may struggle to maintain secure contact with command and control centres.
Egerton-Idehen says the new satellites will help provide more secure and reliable communication channels, reducing the risk of operational communications being compromised.
She added that satellite technology, including imagery and digital mapping, could support security agencies in tracking and monitoring activities during operations.
The NIGCOMSAT boss urged Nigerians to be patient with the delivery timeline, saying the projects are expected to provide long-term benefits for the country’s security architecture and digital economy.
The Federal Executive Council had earlier approved the purchase and deployment of NIGCOMSAT-2A and NIGCOMSAT-2B to expand internet access and improve connectivity across Nigeria.
