The Nigeria Football Federation has apologised to President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians following the Super Falcons’ failure to secure direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, speaking on behalf of the federation’s Executive Committee and the Super Falcons, acknowledged the disappointment caused to millions of Nigerians who had backed the team.
The federation said the Super Falcons entered the competition carrying the hopes of the nation and enjoying significant support from the Federal Government, but regretted their inability to deliver the expected result.
The NFF also extended a special apology to President Tinubu, acknowledging his administration’s support for Nigerian sports and the development and welfare of women in sports.
The football body says it will now conduct an assessment of the team’s preparation, technical planning, logistics and overall operations to identify areas requiring improvement.
