Nasarawa State has announced plans to enroll 250,000 additional poor and vulnerable households in the State Health Insurance Scheme as part of efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
At the launch of the Domestic Resource Mobilization for the Adoption of the Poor and Vulnerable, Governor Abdullahi Sule reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector. He cited economic challenges and emerging health concerns affecting residents as reasons for expanding the scheme.
“The State Government has consistently allocated substantial resources to improve healthcare access for the poor,” Governor Sule stated. He urged stakeholders to join in efforts to achieve universal health coverage”.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, lauded Governor Sule’s commitment to healthcare, while Hon. Safiyanu Isah Andaha, Chairman of Akwanga Local Government, pledged to aid the enrollment of beneficiaries across the state’s 13 local government areas.
Governor Sule also flagged off the distribution of medical equipment to four general hospitals and motorbikes for disease surveillance officers in the state’s local government areas.
