The Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, has called for stronger economic regulation to improve air connectivity, promote fair competition and support sustainable growth in Nigeria’s aviation industry.

Najomo made the call while delivering a presentation titled Regulatory Framework for Taming Natural Monopoly at the 2026 Airport Business Summit and Expo (ABSE), held in Lagos under the theme Economics of Enhanced Air Connectivity: Airline and Integration.

He said although the aviation industry is characterised by natural monopolies, effective regulation is essential to prevent the abuse of market dominance, ensure fair competition and protect the interests of airlines, investors and air travellers.

According to him, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will continue to strengthen economic oversight through the implementation of the Civil Aviation Act 2022 and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 to promote fairness, efficiency, accountability and long term growth across the sector.

Najomo explained that the measures are aimed at creating a stable investment environment, encouraging healthy competition, improving service delivery, protecting consumer rights and enhancing the competitiveness of Nigeria’s aviation industry.

He also stressed the need for stronger collaboration among airlines, airports, regulators and other stakeholders to improve air connectivity, deepen airport airline integration and position the country’s aviation sector for sustainable growth.
