The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted a series of coordinated airstrikes on suspected terrorist encampments within Alawa Forest, located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. The operations, which are part of a broader strategy to secure Nigeria’s critical infrastructure, target groups disrupting ongoing efforts to restore electricity in the Northwest region. According to Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information, the missions underscore the military’s dedication to both regional security and stabilizing power resources essential for community resilience.
The strike, following extensive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations, was strategically timed. ISR data confirmed significant gatherings of armed groups suspected of preparing to interfere with power infrastructure maintenance. “We are committed to ensuring that the people of the North West have uninterrupted access to power, especially given its importance to security and economic recovery,” stated Air Commodore Akinboyewa.
Beyond securing the immediate area, these operations represent NAF’s ongoing contributions to Nigeria’s broader security framework, addressing terrorism and organized crime that threaten essential services. Akinboyewa emphasized that the military remains resolute in its mission to restore peace to affected regions, with a particular focus on safeguarding key national resources.
The successful air operations provide a necessary buffer for engineers and maintenance teams working to restore the affected power grid, underscoring the close collaboration between military and civil entities in tackling Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges.
