The Federal Government of Nigeria has emphasized that promoting the country’s cultural heritage will not only boost its global reputation but also enhance revenue generation and create job opportunities.
Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musawa, revealed this during the pre-launch of DuduPlugs, a platform aimed at connecting culture, creativity, and community, in Abuja.
As part of efforts to increase international exposure to Nigeria’s cultural assets, the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) launched a cutting-edge digital platform designed to project the country’s rich cultural heritage to the world.
Barrister Musawa, represented by Permanent Secretary Madam Ibiene Roberts, alongside the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume (represented by Permanent Secretary Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanson Umobong), emphasized that Nigerian culture is not just an identity but also a vehicle for economic growth.
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, added that there is much to be proud of in Nigeria and Africa.
Executive Secretary of NICO, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, explained that the new initiative will showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage globally, fostering appreciation, accessibility, and foreign exchange earnings. He noted that this will further strengthen Nigeria’s economy and international image.
The program is expected to provide millions of Nigerian children in the diaspora with opportunities to learn and understand their indigenous languages and cultural heritage.
